Wiltshire Federation of Young Farmers Clubs
We may be small, with only 300 members, but we pack a good deal in.
We are now into our 84th Year with Mr Jeff Simpkins (Malmesbury YFC) taking the Chairmanship from retiring County Chairman Mr Sam Maidment (Chippenham YFC) at our recent Annual General Meeting. With the County team being completed with Mr Roger Wilson as County President, Miss Steph Burch (Purton & Cricklade YFC) as County Vice Chairman, Miss Charlotte Taylor (Malmesbury YFC) as County Junior Vice Chairman, Miss Liz Hutchinson (Malmesbury YFC) as Rally Chairman and Mr Sam Maidment (Chippenham YFC) Finance Chairman.
Over the last year Wiltshire members have raised a fantastic £8850 for Charites across Wiltshire, that’s alongside raising funds to keep the County afloat. With Devizes YFC members raising a staggering £58 per member for Charity.
Members have enjoyed raising the funds with: Tractor Runs; Providing refreshments for Tractor Runs; Ploughing Matches; Harvest Balls; Coffee Shop; County Clay Shoot; Countryfile Ramble; Firework Parties and Barn Dances in order to raise the monies. As well as supporting many local events and charities from Soap box racing; Open Farm Sunday; Armed Forces Day; Carnivals; Raft Racing; Operation Christmas Child and helping out in Bath serving hot food to the homeless.
Regular Club programmes have also been full with evenings learning disco dancing; Jump Rope; Farm Safety Training; Flower Arranging; Cooking; Public Speaking; Carol Singing; Skittles; Trampolining; Stock judging; Calf Handling; Lambing; Scavenger Hunting; Hedge laying and Fence erecting, along with the numerous Farm visits across the County and beyond. Not even mentioning the work and practice for the competitions at the County Rally. Preparations having already started for the 2019 Rally on Saturday 27th April at Battens Farm, Allington, Chippenham, Wiltshire by kind permission of the Hawker Family.
Further afield members have competed at South West Area and National Finals in Jump Rope; Tug of War; Public Speaking; Flower Arranging and Stock judging.
All rounded off with a little socialising at Steak & Strawberry Suppers; Harvest Hellraiser Ball; Gloucestershire’s Glitterball; Annual Dinners; Christmas Meals and Pimms Parties.
A great Year, WELL DONE ALL, good luck for the forthcoming one.
